Can you use anti-stick spray (e.g Pam) with a George Foreman grill?

I always spray the two plates with a bit of Pam so my chicken doesn't stick to the plates. However, tonight my roommate told me not to do that because it supposedly gets into the plates and ruins the non-stick coating. Are you not supposed to use anti-stick spray on them?
