My husband neglects his diabetes. Any advice?

I'm a 24yr.old who has had diabetes for 14yrs. now. Although I have been extremely blessed not to have complications from the diabetes. I also have another autoimmune type disease. I have struggled for years with not accepting the diabetes. I hated testing and keeping track of them. I would cry and cheat on my diet when my parents weren't with me. What your husband is suffering from is not only denial but also self acceptence. He doesn't want to think that he has changed in any way. To help him cope he needs to see a medical physcologist, someone who is trained to deal with diseases and all the stress and anxiety it brings. It really helped and it can be more than a one time thing. People like us need ongoing support.
