Insane itching after the worst sunburn imaginable. help?

steroids...that is what the Doctor gave my husband when he got burnt in Florida. We had tried everything from soaking in vinegar...putting tea in bath water...aloe Vera... it was so bad we tried everything people would suggest. Nothing worked until we went to the ER...a week later and his skin smelled of rotting tissue...did we get help..steroids
